Music is a prime example of how your mind forms multiple associations that encode working memory into longterm memory. The tempo and title of the song already make it poignant--slow piano is famous for that. Yet the informed can retrieve memories of Gon and Killua for which the song was actually played, or might have been played that trigger other emotions. As you listen, your mind formulates themes to organize those emotions and scenes youre recalling, depending on the part of the song: regret, dejection, despair, relief, denouement, strength, camaraderie, innocence, growth, or promise. So when the production team chooses to play a given song for a given situation, it does so to cement that moment with others like it to make it more memorable in the longterm. The power of the song is emboldened as it is used appropriately and infrequently to highlight only targeted memories. Luckily, this one has only appeared at pivotal times and has not been overused. Thereafter, the song, listened to in isolation, becomes an unfolding story, loaded with much more meaning than sound. #cognition
