Musician Cher has joined the ever-growing list of celebrities who’ve publicly declared their support for the CNN film “Blackfish” -- and their frustration with SeaWorld and the marine park’s animal welfare history. The singer took to Twitter this week to speak up: We applaud Cher for willingness to speak up against SeaWorld and the exploitation of intelligent marine mammals,” Candace Crespi of the Oceanic Preservation Society told The Dodo. It hasn’t been a very good few days for SeaWorld -- on Sunday, a power failure caused 48 people to be stuck on an amusement park ride for fours hours -- the captive humans were released, unlike their orca counterparts. SeaWorld and marine parks profit off keeping orcas and other marine animals in captivity -- despite evidence that captivity not only induces unnatural behaviors in whales, but also endangers trainers. Join us in pledging never to visit SeaWorld or other marine parks until they empty their orca tanks.
