Musings from my laundry mat visit tonight: 1) My life used to be much simpler. Way back in the day before I owned everything, I would go to the laundry mat and spend about an hour with a good book and do my familys laundry for the whole week- wash, dry, and fold. What the heck happened to that? 2) I found $4.00 in quarters left on top of a machine that I just knew had been left for me. I was so thankful for those quarters even though I had already cashed in $15.00 for quarters, so I already had plenty of quarters to do my laundry. After the summer we have had with machines, I truly was so happy that someone had been so thoughtful to lighten the load of a stranger. I was convinced it was divine intervention. 3) After I loaded all my clothes into 3 washers, I watched a sweet young (very) pregnant couple figure out which machines to use, how much to put in each machine, etc....They chose machines next to mine, then asked me a couple of questions. We made some small talk, and I went to sit and wait for my laundry. I watched as they continued to talk, plan, and after a minute, the wife threw her arms around her husbands neck and said, This is so much fun! (I, by the way, had not been thinking that this was any fun at all.) She left for a few minutes and then returned armed with more money for the machines. By that time, my second load was coming out of the dryer. They began to ask me about how many quarters I had to use to get my clothes dry and whether they should put all of their clothes in the mega dryer or split them out. I folded and we talked about the pros and cons of each choice, when the baby was due, etc.... I loaded one laundry basket into my car and came back for the other one. As I passed the couple, I reached into my pocket and pulled out the $4.00 in quarters that had been left for me. I placed them in the young womans hand and said, These were left on top of a machine for you. I found them earlier and wanted to pass them on. She protested but then grinned and accepted them. 4) I realized those quarters WERE left for me, and I had done exactly what I was supposed to do with them even though their purpose was different than I had originally thought. Divine intervention at the laundry mat? Id say so!
