Musings of a heretic: To be honest, organized religion is NOT one - TopicsExpress

Musings of a heretic: To be honest, organized religion is NOT one of my favorite things in life but believe it or not, I actually used to be a pretty good little “church girl” back in my younger days. This song by Sandi Patty (my original Adele) lulled me to sleep many nights during my formative years. I am reminded of its message of kindness and charity as we approach this Easter season…when I am scrolling Facebook posts regarding Lent and the most notable sacrifice seems to be giving up a daily vending machine snack….or reading people’s so-called prayers that are claiming, declaring, or decreeing that God increase their bounty…maybe just the cumulative effect of this modern-day “prosperity Gospel” that seems to be taking over America. I cannot help but think as I stare at the cross that maybe the point is not just accepting Jesus sacrifice as a gift but to think of it rather as an example that we should be following…that the real “prosperity” can only be achieved when we can detach ourselves from this ME, ME, mentality and give EVERYTHING for the benefit of others. My calling in life is helping animals and I can honestly say that I have never felt more blessed and prosperous than when I am using all that I have to make a difference in the life of an animal in need. Nothing material has ever come close to this kind of wealth for me. Even if you are not religious I would encourage you to listen to this song just on this merit of this woman’s BEAUTIFUL voice…but maybe we can all do a little thinking on the true source of happiness, joy, and prosperity that is so poignantly displayed in Jesus’ life and death…and in my mind the true prosperity is when you live a life that is focused on GIVING rather than receiving. grooveshark/#!/s/Unshakable+Kingdom/1YXDls?src=5
