Musings on Nepali politics. Our Constitution writing process going - TopicsExpress

Musings on Nepali politics. Our Constitution writing process going well into its 7th year gives a whole new meaning to the term Nepal Elastic Time (NET). Forget for a moment that a lot of money has been spent on this process, money that could have been spent on creating sustainable, solar power energy for millions of Nepali homes, ensuring water resources for all, and working on roads, education and lifting out of poverty millions more, healthcare, even public parks, and so on. Lets say it is worth the publics money to get a constitution, for arguments sake. But where is it? What have they agreed and not agreed to so far? Federal restructuring is the only point they dont agree on, we keep hearing. Well, shouldnt the public know what are the various models proposed. I think the best solution is a bold one - that like the Brazilian President, Dilma Rousseff (yes, a woman) is doing. I read somewhere that she is putting some kind of online portal and having the public give input directly on what they would like, I think it was for a referendum for internet privacy or something? If anyone knows more about this, and can share? So why not share the various models of state restructuring, and let the public decide directly? Or would the Maoists not allow that either? I thought they are for the people, of the people, blah blah blah, the peoples party, the peoples revolution...blah blah blah. So they should happily jump into bed with this idea. I am personally confident people will choose a state restructuring model that does not lead to the balkanization of Nepal, but that will benefit socio-economically and politically, the peripheries, and not just the center.
