Must your business idea be new? According to Kirby Ferguson, everything is a remix. No idea is new. Every seemingly ingenious innovation was built on precedent. Recently, the Managing Director of Jumia Nigeria, Dr. Jonathan Doerr charged Nigerian entrepreneurs to leverage ideas (not copy!) that have proved successful in developed countries and domesticate them locally. He said, “Nigerian entrepreneurs can take business ideas that have proved successful in western countries like America and Europe, and domesticate them in line with realities in the country”.
