My 10 Favorite Films of 2014 (First 6 months) that I have seen so far. 1. LOCKE: Tom Hardy is a construction foreman who is on the eve of one of the biggest jobs of his life when he receives a phone call from a woman in London that is so important to him that he leaves the job and his family waiting for him at home to drive 90 minutes to the city. On his drive, Hardy makes phone calls to his employers, co-workers, wife, son and the woman in London as the story unfolds in real time and entirely from Hardys car. 2. COLD IN JULY: Michael C. Hall shoots down an intruder in his home only to find out that the intruders criminal father, Sam Shepard was just released from prison and has come to town looking for payback. But soon he finds that other motives are at play spiraling his normal, mundane life out of control and towards a lot of bloodshed. 3. THE WOLF OF WALL STREET: Leonardo DiCaprio is a young stock broker who upstarts his own company that is a little bit on the illegal side of the law and becomes the king of Wall Street. But the Feds are right on his tail. 4. INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS: Oscar Issac is a struggling folk singer in the early 1960s trying to catch a break while dealing with the pains of being an artist. 5. GRAND PIANO: Elijiah Wood is a famous concert pianist who is making one comeback performance after nearly destroying his career five years earlier. Once he takes the stage he is made aware that there is a sniper in the opera house who will kill him if he plays one false note. 6. LONE SURVIVOR: Mark Whalberg heads a team of Navy Seals in Afghanistan who are on a mission to take out a top terrorist target but when their position and mission is compromised they have to make a moral decision that will leave them murderers or the hunted up against impossible odds. 7. BLUE RUIN: A young homeless man is told by police that the man who killed his parents years earlier which led to his ruin has been released from prison. He seeks out revenge only to create an all new ruin for him and everyone else involved. 8. JOE: Nicolas Cage is a hard working man with a dark past who hires a young homless boy and his drunk father as part of his crew only to be slowly pulled back into the violent, self-destructive life hes been fighting hard to avoid. 9. X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST: In the future, the world is ruled by robots who have nearly murdered all of the X-Men and mutants alike. The final X-Men only have one hope for survival, to send Wolverine back in time to the 1970s to stop Mystique from assassinating the man who created the robots. 10. (TIE) CAPTAIN AMERICA THE WINTER SOLDIER: When Captain America and Black Widow discover that SHIELD has been compromised by Hydra, they must team up to stop Hydras plot while being wanted by the law. and ENEMY: Jake Galleynhall is a mild mannered college professor who discovers he has a double working as a struggling actor with a pregnant wife. As he digs deeper into the mystery he starts to see things that might inform him that life as he knows it may not be what it seems.
