My 12 year son told me that he learnt about Federation today at school while we walked home. He wasnt happy about what he learnt about. I felt happy to hear that finally our future leaders are learning the Australian history that has been ignored for 2 centuries. Hopefully all teachers will follow the road that Mrs Brian from St. Pius Banyo has taken and the kids might then teach their parents who missed out on history that was being created to destroy lives. Never to late to learn something new I always say! 1901 1 January - Federation. The six self-governing colonies collectively become the states of the Commonwealth of Australia. The Commonwealth Constitution states in reckoning the numbers of people... Aboriginal natives shall not be counted. It also states that the Commonwealth would legislate for any race except Aboriginal people. The states therefore retain their power over Aboriginal Affairs.
