My 2 cents....I, too, like many others am so sad by the passing of Robin Williams. I am happy, however, to see that so many people are being forced to deal with depression and mental illness(albeit small for many) on some level. I am concerned, though, by the trend I see in the words If you need help, please, get it or Dont be afraid, or ashamed, to ask for help. I am so blessed to be strong, from a mental perspective. I did not, however, have a choice in the matter. I am, how He created me. There are people I dearly love who deal with depression, chemical imbalances and anxiety. Let me say, vehemently, vociferously, that telling a person that is battling mental illness, or issues, to seek and get the help they need- is like telling them to ride a bike with their feet tied. I have a challenge for YOU, my friends....How about this?? How about committing to cross lines of comfort and social acceptability to OFFER help, or offer the finding of help for someone you feel may be dealing with more than they can handle. A person who is dealing with depression cannot get the help they need. For many, it is beyond their capability when they are in the middle of their illness. Many, luckily, have support systems that recognize their needs and put action behind their hope. Reach out. Ask someone that you are worried about if they need help. Ask them if YOU can help. Get them help without asking. Do whatever you can. This is real and it is not going to go away if we ignore it. If this is more than you can do--try this. An 8 second hug is proven to raise hormone levels to the point of making a person actually feel better. Take 8 seconds out of your day today and hug someone who may need it. It is worth our time.
