My ALS contribution: First- what is ALS? Amyotrophic - TopicsExpress

My ALS contribution: First- what is ALS? Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement (learned this is the Pathology portion of my education). Ridiculously sad fact: Over time, people with ALS progressively lose the ability to function and care for themselves. DEATH often occurs within 3 - 5 years of diagnosis. About 1 in 4 patients survive for more than 5 years after diagnosis. Prevention: You may want to see a genetic counselor if you have a family history of ALS :( Well...thats heartbreaking... **I LOVE the spread of awareness of this heartbreaking disease if it benefits a SINGLE life in ANY way...so Ill not be one of those anti-ice bucket peeps at all...kuddos for sensing for a few seconds what ALS feels like, and spreading awareness :) HOWEVER- please google Bo Stern What its really like with ALS to thoroughly attempt to understand :( ... Double :(( I for one have not been nominated, but have chosen to donate a whopping $20 from the whopping $300 (mas o menos) Ive made as a student in 2014 to the cause. I sure hope my humble contribution helps, as best it can, to the much needed research and support for those suffering from this devastating disease. Peace and love, always :)
