My Anime Appreciation goes to: 5 Centimeters Per Second... or anything directed by Makato Shinkai. As anyone who is familiar with Makatos work, his unique style of romance and depiction of relationships often strikes a cord to those that can relate. Those who tend to connect to his stories often find the real hurt that distance involves in relationships, as well as how unrequited love can last a lifetime. His emphasis on distance resonates throughout his work, serving as a plot vehicle that hits home hard for those who experienced such circumstances. Not only that, the art in this is absolutely beautiful in every regard, rightfully earning the title of 5 Wallpapers Per Second, watching it any less that 1080p and you are potentially doing yourself a major disservice. The soundtrack is amazing as well. Other works that too deserve mentioning are: Garden of Words, Voices of a Distant Star, and Children Who Chase Lost Voices. Arguably 5 Cm Per Second is Shinkais magnum opus in my opinion. Its one of those timeless pieces that whenever I see a scene from it I immediately get goosebumps and feel all the emotions rushing again. I would highly recommend it for anyone!
