My Dad moved to Louisiana when he was 12 years old. He was born in Liberty, MS., Amite Co., in 1920. He told me stories of having to move his family of 10, eight children, (including himself), AND his Mom and Dad in the 1930s. He remembered the ferry that was the ONLY way to cross the MISSISSIPPI. He pointed out its landing location to me. He drove a T-Model down silver street, with NO BRAKES, to meet the ferry. He watched the original bridge being constructed. He had to find a house, make, and sell a crop here, (at 12 years old, mind you), while his Dad finished business in Mississippi. He related to me, how his Dad supplemented their income by making moonshine. Many stories of how ingenuity kept them from getting caught by the government. PRICELESS STORIES related to me, whom at the time, did not appreciate the historical value, like I do now!! My Daddy was a great man, with a good, kind, generous heart. Needless to say, A VERY HARD WORKER!!! I SO WISH I would have paid more attention!!!! MY ROOTS RUN DEEP IN MISSISSIPPI........
