My Dad was quite the practical joker. Many of you in Facebook Land never knew him, but you know of my sense of humor, sarcasm, knack for practical jokes, and some of my true stories Ive written about friends on FB about events in their lives (I especially love tagging names). Although I didnt get to know my Dad for long, he started me from a very early age in playing pranks. Some were victims of the Baby on the Doorstep prank in which he placed a newborn (me) along with a note asking to please take me in. The unsuspecting couple was always someone my parents knew, but hadnt met me yet. Nancy Myers and Tom Myers can attest to this. Ive been asked numerous times if I ever considered repeating the prank with my own children. The answer is no. While the temptation and comedic value is there, I also realize that the world we live in has become very un-humorous and sanitized. Can you imagine if I did that in todays world to the wrong person (these people are sometimes referred to as bad Samaritans)? I would have the cops called on me, the news channels would race out, and Id be blasted on social media as a bad and unfit parent. Some people have questioned why I pick on them. They usually have their name tagged by me or something exaggerated written by me on Facebook. They believe Im singling them out never knowing that Im doing similar things to at least 20 others. To me, its always been sort of a term of endearment if Im picking at you. Im not doing it to be a bully or make myself feel better. I do it because I find you likable and someone that can good-naturedly handle it and laugh it off. Think of it as the annoying big brother you never had, but would take up for you in a heartbeat. Genetically its ingrained in me. So, if youre someone I constantly rib and joke with in person or FB, take it as a compliment and feel free to throw it back my way. I really mean no harm, but realize in todays world that weve become over sensitive to everything.
