My Darling Baby Girl turned 18 today… how did that happen??? I remember packing her day bag like it was yesterday. Is it story time? Do we have a play date set up for tomorrow? Where have all those years gone? I wouldn’t trade a single second, a single PBJ sandwich, a single tear or scraped knee for all the pearls in the ocean. My daughter is still the brightest star in the night sky for me, awesome, wise, smart, kind and beautiful beyond words. And if I didn’t trust my own eyes, my own ears, my own heart, as sufficient evidence of her awesomeness, I only have to look at her cast of friends to know who she is. Each and every one of them is a bright shining star, radiant in their own way. Birds of a feather flock together. They are, to a person, the best examples of what a young person can be. Smart, talented and driven, each in their own way (academics are not everything!) It warms my heart to see how they love and support each other. They each have the enthusiasm of youth, boundless hope and joy for their futures. If ever there was a group of teenagers who deserved to feel excited and confident in their future, this is the group. I have no idea how I wound up this lucky, but I am grateful each and every day for my daughter. I loved her with boundless love when she was born. I was surprised by the amount of love I found inside my own heart upon her arrival. It was as though I had lived with the Grand Canyon right outside my bedroom window, but had never noticed before. But today, on her 18th birthday, I have so, so, so many more reasons to love her than on that first day she was born. Life is good. Happy birthday, Baby!
