My Dear Patients: I wanted to share some personal news with you all. We spend a lot of time together and often learn so much about each other’s lives. Last Saturday, our beloved 16 ½ year old Bearded Collie, Jack, passed away. He was the best dog ever, all the way to the end, when he died in our arms. On Sunday, My Fabulous 91-year-old Dad passed away, the best Dad ever, all the way to the end, when he died in our arms. My Dad is My Hero, but also a hero to many. He taught me that I could be anything I wanted to be; all I had to do is believe in myself………I believed him and here I am living the dream. Doing what I love everyday. My Dad enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1943, which subsequently became the Air Force. He was a waste gunner on a B-24, which was shot down over Verona, Italy (The City of Love) on Valentine’s Day in 1944. He risked his own life to save one of his comrades from their burning plane. He was later awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, by Congressman Paul Ryan, for his courage and personal risk to save his comrade’s life. He was subsequently captured by the Germans and spent two years as a Prisoner of War. He survived the Black March and 2 years later was freed from a German camp by General Patton and his tanks. He returned to the United States for rehabilitation. After recuperating, he entered officer training at San Antonio Texas, Lackland Airforce Base. He became a 2nd Lt. He married My Mom Alice while stationed at Lackland Airforce Base in 1947. 5 years later, I was born. We have decided to start a foundation in his name. The Bill Rossman Craniofacial and Cleft Foundation. Funds will be utilized for the special patient that can’t afford surgeries they may need. Many of you have kept us in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for that. It means more than you know. Sincerely, Pam Hanson
