My FB feed is now completely devoid of anti-Michael Brown people. Hidden, unfriended or blocked. Theyre gone. Their venom, ignorance and vitriol is eerily absent. Its almost as if Ive closed the curtains on a war happening outside my window. I dont want to see them, but I still know they exist, and it kills me. How? How could anyone in this country hear about what happened in Ferguson and wonder well, what did he do to get shot? The kid was shot six times. He was not armed. Ever heard of shooting him in the legs, maybe, if youre that scared, Mr. policeman? How bout fighting him, big guy? Fight the kid. Youre a trained killer, for cryin out loud. Fight him. You think he can take your gun? You know how difficult it is for a civilian to unholster a policemans gun? Its nigh impossible. By design. It wasnt gonna happen. BUT HES A THUG. Ya know what? I used to shoplift. Constantly. Right around when I was Michael Browns age. My face was on the wall at Sound Warehouse for attempting to steal Judas Priests Painkiller (I ended up buying shortly thereafter). Security would even follow me around at Wal-Mart because they knew who I was, because I was w/ a friend of mine when hed been recently caught. I wasnt just a teenage thief, I was somewhat notorious. One night, in the wee hours, when my friends and I were bored and walking (in the middle of) the suburban streets of Metairie, a cop car sidled up on us, and I ran. My friends didnt, but I did, because I thought thats what you were supposed to do when the cops show up. Young people can be ignorant and impulsive, especially when it comes to the police. I mustve run because I was guilty of something, right? Nope. We were doing nothing wrong. We were thinking about egging an enemys house, or maybe rolling someones tree, but we didnt. We werent even carrying eggs or toilet paper. Ive also been to jail (twice) more times than Michael Brown (never). Not to mention Ive smoked marijuana. I even have some in my system right now! If all those things constitute being a thug who deserves to die, then I must be one lucky s.o.b.
