My Friday rant: I was listening to the Ross Tucker show on NFL network this morning. The topic was Do you understand the Raiders plan for wanting to win now by signing older players? WHY is this concept so hard to understand?! This is YEAR 1 of the rebuild--the last 2 years were the tear down (which was needed to get rid of bad contracts, get draft picks back and cap space). It will take a few years for us to be CONSISTENT winners. Of course we want to win now. Of course you HAVE to sign some veterans in order to make that happen! You cant sign all young up and coming players to a team who hasnt won in over a decade. Why? If by chance they WANT to be here, most likely you will have to overpay them. Every team needs a mixture of veteran players with younger ones. We havent had the cap space or draft picks to get a bunch of young talen the last 2 years. Even with all the cap space we have we still have to spend an avg of 89% of it to meet the leagues cap bottom rule. signing older vets to fill in positions while plans to bring in (draft/FA) younger players continues. This is how you build/sustain a winning franchise. Every decision wont be correct--nobodys is. The plan is solid. To criticize now w/o seeing who we draft gives an incomplete picture.
