My Grandfather - Gilby Roy Smart (1892 - 1972) was No 337, 9th Light Horse Regiment, enlisted 23-10-1914, returned 19-8-1919. Then, WW2, he put his age down and was in the 2/27 Australian Infantry Battalion and fought overseas, but here is my query. He went back to the Egypt, Palestine area again and I thought he went onto New Guinea, but family says no - how do I find out his service record. He was discharged 7-2-1947 as he ended his time as a guard at Loveday POW camp, South Australia. First photo - Gilby Smart with his English cousin Gilby Gray - photo taken Manchester, England. He had one small injury during all his time - morning ablutions - shot in the buttock. Have photo of his bayonet and spurs, although they maybe a Turks, not sure. Gilby hailed from Minnipa or Streaky Bay, South Australia.
