My Island, My MPA: Forest Heights Academy Students at Forest Heights Academy in Abaco reached out to community leaders and fishermen from Sandy Point to Green Turtle Cay to raise awareness of the 20-by-20 Caribbean Challenge Initiative (CCI) and voice their support for proposed marine protected areas (MPAs) on their island. – Abaco Marls, Cross Harbour, South Abaco Blue Holes and East Abaco Creeks National Parks. The CCI is an agreement between the governments of ten Caribbean countries (including The Bahamas), which aims to “effectively conserve and manage at least 20 percent of the marine and coastal environment (of each country) by 2020” including establishing a functional and sustainable financing mechanism.
