My Lament over a Lost Lemon... So...Im sitting here at T.G.I. Fridays in Southfield (I know some of you are already saying thats your first mistake, but its right across the street from 46th District Court)... I order my usual iced tea with lemon and the server says I dont think we have any lemons; were on the truck but Ill check. She returns with the iced tea and no lemon. I asked her what happened to the lemon? and she responds I told you I didnt think we had any. I then asked her to take the iced tea and please replace it with an Arnold Palmer and to send the manager over. She complied. The manager (M) arrives and the following conversation ensues... M: Hi, how may I help you? Me: Hi, I ordered an iced tea with lemon and your server told me that youre out of lemons and youre waiting on the truck? M: Yeah, Im sorry thats true. Me: Doesnt your corporate office allow you to withdraw funds from petty cash and perhaps run down to Kroger and grab a couple of lemons to tide you over until the truck arrives? M (smiling sheepishly): Yeah they do, but weve kinda been busy with the truck... Me: Oh, so the truck is here now? M: No, I think she got confused. The produce truck doesnt come until tomorrow... Me (interjecting): So youre going to be out of lemons until tomorrow. M: Im sorry but we ran out last night... Me: So you knew LAST NIGHT that you didnt have any lemons and you came in today without any? M: Well, I didnt get here until noon... Me: But wasnt somebody else here running the place until you got here? M: Yeah, the opening manager who gets here at 7:00, but with all that we got going on... Me: So now theres two of yall here and NEITHER of you can run up the street to Kroger and grab a couple of lemons? M: Im sorry sir. Really? I called corporate guest relations while I waited on my entree to arrive. Nobody couldve stopped off on the way to work and got lemons? They couldnt ask an employee to make a quick trip and give the employee a couple of dollars for gas money? Hell, they couldve comped my meal and asked me to go. Ive got a Kroger card and could use some extra points. UPDATE: The server just came over and told me that my meal was comped. Not only that, she brought a to go cup and lo and behold, look what was inside! I dont know if guest relations immediately called the store, or he felt guilty realizing that his bar bill was also about to be affected. Nevertheless, I also will give credit where its due. The problem was resolved, even beyond my satisfaction and I appreciate getting my iced tea and lemon, regardless of how it happened. Kudos to Fridays, whether it was addressed locally or nationally. There I said it.
