My MIL just got a new family picture mounted on canvas and hung on - TopicsExpress

My MIL just got a new family picture mounted on canvas and hung on her wall. This weekend I could not help but stare at it every time I walked past it because I cant stand the way I look in it. Every picture I see of myself I pick apart and wished I looked different. I was telling my husband about it and how I think I need some more therapy to deal with my new body. He just laughed and said just think of it like those crazy mirrors that make you look funny- what you see is not what you get he made me laugh and got me thinking about this idea. How many times do we look at ourselves or others and place judgement on them because of what we see or maybe even dont see? What if what we see is not the best part of people and what we get from them is? I wish for you and for myself that the picture showed, not what we see, but what we get. I wish when I looked at that photo my mind didnt fill with negative self and fat talk. I wish I saw the moment I helped a stranger or the moment when I forgot about all my insecurities and laughed with abandon or the way my kids made me smile. I wish that is what I saw when I looked at myself in the picture. Does anyone else struggle with this? What things do you do to try and combat it? Id love to have a discussion about this.
