My Manifesto. If you have the time to read it, do!! Hi! My name is Esther James. I am from Ireland and I am in my first year of psychology and Counselling. I am running for the role of executive officer within the student association. I am interested in the role because I am aware that the students are the primary affectees of the manner in which any university is run; and that they should have a knowledge of and a say in what is on-going in the university. I would like to increase the scale at which that happens in our University this year. I would like to hear what Abertay’s students have to say and see what progress can be made with this information. I have become well aware in the short time that I have been here that quite a substantial amount of student, most especially the “freshers” do not know what the student association executive committee is and/or what their roles as student representatives are. Therefore a main aim of mine, if elected into this position would be to publicise the student association executive committee even more; so as to make a larger number of students aware of what it is; the aims, policies and abilities of the committee. I would equally like to make the student executives more accessible to the students. The student association has a few means of communication through the use of social media like the website, Facebook, Twitter and the new SLAM magazine and website. I would like to increase awareness of these existing communication lines amidst students as they are great resources of information. In addition, I would like to look into creating more means of communication between the executives and students and also between students themselves for academic, social and all other student based purposes. I want to create an increase in awareness of all of the happenings within our city and university amongst students; I believe that there are lots of opportunities for Abertay students to become more proactive in their academics, extra-curricular activities and social lives. I want over the next year, to explore ways of making details of these opportunities more readily available to the students without the necessity of them having to go and search. I want to bring these learning, volunteering and self-development opportunities to the students on a platter of gold. I have found that the relationship between opportunities and communications is vital. Therefore, making the student association’s social media platforms more popular as a means of information sourcing for students is of the essence. My aims for the next year if elected, are to communicate effectively, Listen diligently, to act efficiently, and to encourage students to go forth and taste the rainbow of communication and opportunity.
