My Message to the People of Thiruvananthapuram: Dear Fellow - TopicsExpress

My Message to the People of Thiruvananthapuram: Dear Fellow Citizens and Friends, As the Election Commissions deadline to cease campaigning approaches, I would like to thank all of you for your staunch support and firm backing in what has been a most rewarding five years in my first term as your MP. Much has been accomplished, long-pending schemes have been brought to life, and great work has been initiated. I intend to continue working for you with determination and to the best of my abilities to ensure these are all implemented and turned into reality, whether it is substantial projects like the Vizhinjam Port or smaller local infrastructure development initiatives in our coastal areas and outlying villages, which will improve the lives of lakhs of people. I would also like to thank you for your unwavering support over the last four weeks while I have been out on my re-election campaign. The enthusiasm my team and I witnessed on the streets, the contented faces of constituents who we have been able to serve, and the promise of continuing our work for them, have rejuvenated me and renewed my faith in Thiruvananthapuram as my karmabhumi- the land of my endeavours -- as we honour a greater vision for our nation and our fellow countrymen. As you all know, in these last few months certain factions have also unleashed the worst and lowest form of slander and personal vilification against me. When they failed to engage with my work as MP for Thiruvananthapuram, when they found they could not challenge me on my achievements for the constituency, they had no qualms in sinking to shameful tactics for their narrow political interests, seeking to turn my own bereavement against me. It is the people of Thiruvananthapuram who helped me at this difficult time, by giving me strength and assuring me of their faith in me and my work on their behalf. For all this I am thankful to you, the enlightened citizens of this constituency, whom it has been a privilege to work for and with, and a proud duty to serve. I offer myself once again to all of you as your representative in Delhi. You can be assured that I will do my best for Thiruvananthapuram, for our nation, and for you. Yours sincerely, Shashi Tharoor
