My Morning Paper 26th August 2014 A Prime Minister of Bad Judgment “PM defends trip to Vegas instead of voting in VAT” – The Tribune, 26th August 2014. Excerpt from this article, “Prime Minister Perry Christie said yesterday his presences was not needed to pass the controversial Value-Added Tax bill therefore he made the “judgment call” to leave the country for business purposes.” It is clear that this administration under this Prime Minister has displayed nothing more than a bad judgment from the very first day they took office. From a mortgage relief program that failed to assist anyone, to a failed bid to regain controlling share of BTC and even as they ‘re-work’ the numbers on the National Health Insurance plan, there only seems to be bad judgment on behalf of this government that had led to each of these initiatives falling flat on its face. Let us not forget the poor wording of the ‘gaming referendum’ they were advised to change but showing the same poor judgment they went ahead and put on, it was voted down but showing even more bad judgment the Prime Minister made the ‘judgment call’ to have the very voice of the people over turned and casted aside. We are to be reminded that this is the very same Prime Minister that showed ‘bad judgment’ and voted against the equality of women in 2002 but now to seeks to represent the same issue in a referendum which very wording seeks to go against the constitution that is seeks to amend, showing another case of ‘bad judgment, so why should anyone be surprised by his recent showing of poor judgment? Exactly what was his excuse for missing being recorded in history as voting for a bill that seeks to potentially ruin the lives of many? “We had some significant meetings, one of which was to meet with the owners of SLS, the new company in place of the Mandarin (at Baha Mar) and I wanted to be present to see the new hotel and encourage them as they are coming at the last moment……” The point is, Mr. Prime Minister, is that they had already made the commitment to come so what were you ‘encouraging ‘ them of? The explanation makes no sense but then I cannot expect much more from a Prime Minister that seems to take his responsibilities lightly. I will reiterate what I have been saying all weekend, no matter how annoying it may seem at this point, history will forever reflect that the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, who claims to have presented VAT to the people of the Bahamas as a form of tax reform, was not present to vote for one of the most fiscally important initiatives in our history, showing poor judgment.
