My Morning Paper 7th August 2013 “Prime Minister criticizes - TopicsExpress

My Morning Paper 7th August 2013 “Prime Minister criticizes Minnis on stem cell research position” The Nassau Guardian, 7th August 2013 Except from this article: “Prime Minister Perry Christie yesterday Criticized Free National Movement (FNM) leader Dr. Hubert Minnis for making “tactical errors’ during the House of Assembly’s stem cell research debate. Dr. Minnis is out to lunch, Christie said yesterday, when asked to respond to Minnis calls for the government’s stem cell legislation to be placed in a House Committee before passage.” Personally, I am held spell bound and be wildered by the remarks by this Prime Minister as it pertains to this subject or any other serious topic that has been brought forth since this PLP government has been in office. It seems as if he [the Prime Minister], does not realize or maybe is just unaware of the position of the leader of the Opposition and why he would have taken said position, maybe this Prime Minister himself is out to lunch, well I have come to ring the bell. Mr. Prime Minister the goes on to say “Christie stressed that his government is creating a regime for stem cell research and therapy that will be properly organized and scrutinized.” my question is by whom? Who will ‘organize and scrutinize’ this practice and what is the scope of stem cell research and therapy as proposed? Mr. Prime Minister, you should realize that you made the ‘tactical mistake’ in getting Peter Nygard so intimately involved in governments business especially this venture. Let me explain, you first deny having a meeting with the man after the PLP’s victory after the may 7th election win, this turned out to be a lie; you then went on you claim that you did not receive any monies from him for your campaign. He [Mr. Nygard] then produced an affidavit wherein it shows that you lied about this also. As the talk about stem research and therapy had just began Mr. Nygard had already began to air commercials on television promoting it and then there is the question of what exactly is he injecting himself with in the video that you even denied existed. What exactly is the substance? Is it derived from embryonic stem cell research and is this the type of research that you wish to begin in the Bahamas , as your bill as proposed as unclear on your true intent. There is a fundamental problem, you claim that the research and therapy will be beneficial to all Bahamians and will save live lives, while intimating that is it linked to embryonic stem cell research but in your bill you claims to be against this type of stem cell research, so when you make Dr. Minnis’s “tackle mistake” clear today maybe, just maybe you would want to clear up exactly what direction this government is taking as it pertains to stem cell research and therapy.
