My Opinion Piece on #Frozen. No spoilers but anyone with half a brain could figure out the story of this formulaic garbage. Well then... I wasnt completely surprised by my reaction to #Frozen. When I first saw the trailer, it did absolutely nothing for me (Dare I say, IT LEFT ME COLD! HA!). But when it went on to become this monster I thought maybe I had misread something. I wasnt really looking forward to seeing it. It was just something I wanted to get over with just so I could understand a lot of conversations and memes on the internet. I couldnt get past the first 10 minutes without tapping out. I was not going to power through this. So glad I never tried to see this in a movie theater. What little storyline I was able to tolerate was ridiculous (The trolls said Elsa had to be trained to control her powers not locked away like a weapon you idiot parents. You couldnt have asked the trolls to recommend someone? Wheres Professor X when you need him?) and I hate, HATE this style of 3D animation that makes everyone look like Nickelodeon quality rubber dolls. Note that this movie was made by the NOT-PIXAR department (Their only good movie in my opinion was BOLT) although Pixar itself has been testing my patience as of late. (WTF were you thinking with BRAVE? But thats a whole nother rant) And nice economy there with reusing Rapunzels (Dont even get me started on #Tangled) model for BOTH main characters. But then again, head of animation Lino DiSalvo kept whining in interviews about how pretty girls were SO! HARD! TO! ANIMATE! (This was actually the reason I initially went out of my way to not see the movie. Girls are hard to draw? Then you dont need this girls money. But it also fell under the How can I boycott something I have no interest in category.) Note to directors: Stop saying stupid shit in interviews. And the songs... #Frozen was described as a Broadway show that happened to be animated. If thats the case then keep me the hell away from Broadway. Shrill and forgettable. No Unfortunate Souls here (Except for me trying to watch this). All in all I dread that this will be the new road #Disney will be on for a while. No heart or soul but with LOTS of merchandising opportunities pushing all the right tween Divergent buttons - You are SO SPECIAL you are a DANGER TO SOCIETY! Yanno, I can accept the fact that maybe Im definitely not the demographic for this film, but the problem I have was that it used to not matter. There used to be a time I could count on #Disney to make movies that were at least beautiful to watch as well as entertaining. The last movie I enjoyed was The Princess and the Frog and Up. #Frozen was a treacly mess that grated more than it entertained. Well, now I can count on them for completely different reasons now. Well thank goodness I own a lot of their older films. Im going to be spending a lot of time with them for a bit. Theres also How to Train Your Dragon 2 coming up. Chris Sanders doesnt seem to have a problem with animating girls AND having a good story. Screw it. I really just want to see GODZILLA. But really, The Lion King and Avatar got beaten out by THIS?
