My Parent Friends - Ever seen data walls in your kids classroom? My friend, Cindy contacted someone we know and asked his expert opinion. Feel free to share his statement with your principal… No matter how cute, theyre insidious at any level. The last one is the worst Ive ever seen. Heres what he had to say about data walls: ______________________ First, I invite a response to this question from proponents of data walls: What scientific evidence is there that data walls increase student motivation and achievement? Second, I believe data walls may be a form of public humiliation which has the potential to decrease motivation and increase psychopathology. Students should be made aware of their progress, motivated, supported, and challenged to achieve; however, I do not believe a student’s performance is the business of other students in the class. (It is important to note that when I ask for scientific evidence for data walls, I am talking about evidence from respected, peer reviewed, scientific journals with results that have been replicated.)
