My Philosophy Professor in First Year at the University, Ezekiel - TopicsExpress

My Philosophy Professor in First Year at the University, Ezekiel Mwazembe Kasiera - like Socrates walking into a class of his students in Athens and taking to Antisthenes, Aeschines, Plato, Xenophon and Euclides and Phaedo - majestically strode into the lecture hall as he always did, to lecture us on a Topic called Truth. He began by asking Where is the truth? We were lost. He answered his own rhetorical question, by thundering, The Truth is out there....! We shouted back, where? To which he replied, out there in the amphitheater!, pointing at a thicket of trees and climbers in the natural amphitheater within Siriba campus of Maseno University. I remember severally after that, every time we passed through the amphitheater to and from lectures, we would make jokes about where the truth was hiding. Another time, Prof. Kasiera walked into the hall to lecture on Thinking. He declared, Thinking is difficult....people fear thinking! In understanding the problem with Kenya body polity, I find the two lectures by Prof Kasiera most useful and wish he could be accorded an opportunity on our TV and radio channels and on any other platform to lecture Kenyans on those two topics in Introduction to Philosophy 101 - The Truth and Thinking.
