My Phoenix Story At 36 I was well on my way to letting myself - TopicsExpress

My Phoenix Story At 36 I was well on my way to letting myself be defined by my circumstances. I was devastated after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis after 5 years of debilitating pain. Declared permanently disabled by my Dr. my career and educational goals were suspended indefinitely. I had actually just been promoted at work and was in the midst of finally completing my two graduate degrees. As if losing all this wasnt enough my partner walked out on our relationship just as I had been diagnosed. I spent the next year in a dark place focused on my disability; feeling robbed of my determination, everything I worked so hard to build and sadly even my will to live. We all have a story; filled with life events that we often let define us. It’s said that life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. Epictetus (a Greek philosopher whose name means “acquired”) said it best “It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.” A crippled slave, who endured many hardships, believed that “all external events are determined by fate, and are thus beyond our control. However, individuals are responsible for their own actions, which they can examine and control through rigorous self-discipline.” I realized that the quality of the rest of my life depended on MY reactions which put me in a different mind space. I also connected so much with the story of the Phoenix and it became my inspiration as well. She takes control of her own life; a mystical bird that CHOOSES to turn fire and ashes as the birthplace of her new, stronger, vibrant and renewed self. The journey from that place i was at in April, 2012 has been rewarding. I lost weight after topping 305 pounds, adopted healthy habits and finally decided to DO something meaningful to me rather than sitting around focused on my disability and what I perceived I COULDNT do. I always felt I was born to inspire, create and lead; it is my calling; my nature. I started my own business and I then purposed to help others react and embark on a positive life path towards independence from what attempts to define THEIR lives. Thanks for joining me on this transformational path and it’s an honor to have you join me along the way helping YOU react positively on your own life journey.
