My RANT for the day!!! Motor Clubs are KILLING our industry!! I understand trying to save money, I really do, but I cannot...and WILL NOT push my drivers & equipment to the utmost limits for next to nothing. I had a motor club call this morning to get us to tow a vehicle from Rock Hill to a Charlotte BMW Dealer... approximately 38 miles. Under regular contracted rates not updated since 2002, this would pay 112.50 (but their mileage only shows 32 miles as the crow flies I guess) so the total paid would be $100.00. The kicker is that they advised that the vehicle had no keys, needed a low-clearance flatbed, required skates, nylon straps and extra cribbing for the tow. The equipment alone at todays pricing to do this job would be a minimum of 121,000.00. Then you add a trained & qualified driver to do the job, 1,000,000 limit insurance policy required to pacify the motor club, fuel and wear & tear on the truck & equipment, and the time that it would take from the original dispatch, tow & billing. As an educated individual with a heap of common sense, I just cannot justify this. They say that the volume makes up for it. Our insurance companies are charging us as consumers HUGE premiums to provide coverage. Then they only pay bare minimums to cover breakdowns & accidents. They are even forcing their insureds to go to their contracted shops & beating up their pricing to a minimum as well. Needless to say, someone else must have done the call for what they would dole out to them, but the risk & cost was just greater than what I could stand. We are busy enough to keep my drivers paycheck coming in each week, so I am very thankful. If you call Interstate, we will always be there for our customers...affordable, professional, courteous, quality & timely service. We provide a service...simple as that & just like everyone else in business, we have to work smart, not hard to keep our heads above water.
