My Singapore visit: Singapore opened my eyes as soon as I landed - TopicsExpress

My Singapore visit: Singapore opened my eyes as soon as I landed in the city. I had never imagined, a place so developed and affluent. The roads were smooth, the streets were clean and the buildings slick. There were no poor people visible. Public transport was better than private transport, unlike in India. I spent my first two days in Singapore in shock. How could a place be so well run? And eventually, the questions came- Why India isnt like this? Why are we so poor? I was told all my life that Indian people and culture is wonderful. As a child, I was supposed to be proud of everything Indian. Now all these beliefs lay shattered. I was no longer someone who belong to a great country. I came from a poor, irrelevant country. The world was much richer, smarter, fairer and, from what I could tell, happier. All our spirituality, diverse culture identities, policies had brought us nowhere. We need to change friends.:( :( (Anurag Kaushik)
