My Strength In Weakness This past nine month of this year has been one of the most changeling times in my life and most exciting. Dealing with my semi breaking downs after break downs and my health seemingly falling apart. Enduring mocking and jeering of family members coming against my faith. This all started when I came back to the Lord and decided to follow Jesus with my cross. It was in my cab God my heavenly Father spoke to me that he called me to preach his word and for me to stop running from what he has chosen me to do. In that time I repented, then I made a commitment to sit at Jesus feet and learn of him. I made one other commitment where you send me God I would go and share the Gospel with others. This past week I have been in the hospital in the ICU with a high heart rate which that came back to normal after a huge dose of beta blockers. The other problem is that I have inflamed lymph nodes that I had a biopsy performed on them. I had conflicting diagnoses one doctor said its not cancer the other said they didn’t get enough of tissue to rule out cancer. The reports the and the other processes of the hospital has not deferred my hope and faith in a healing God! I went home weak but strong in knowing the Grace God still. His word these past months has made me so hungry to know God more. Today I wanted to share one aspect of Grace its God’s strength in our weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV) 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (VS9a)This first part of this scripture is amazing telling us that the grace of God is sufficient its more than enough for the power of Jesus being made perfect in weakness. The word sufficient in the Greek is Arkeo means to avail or to be satisfactory, to be content being enough. Arkeo as a verb in this verse to be suffice rather than sufficient meaining to be possessed of sufficient strength to be strong to be enough. His grace suffices by it’s the power is made perfect in our weakness. That His grace that strengthens us raises a standard against opposition of the enemy. That we might know the demonstration of grace in our lives. Lets turn to Isa 43:2. Isaiah 43:2 (ESV) 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. When we go trials tribulation he is with us, no matter what part of life we find ourselves into be it the waters the rivers they wont overwhelm us. Though the fires it wont burn us and the flames we wont be consumed. For he is with us in all things. When we are weak we are open prey to the enemy a easy kill to devour us into is grips of despair. But the grace of God is enough his power is enough in our weakness he is our strength. In life we will walk through the hardships but we have victory in hand to over come. 2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV) 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Lets talk about the second part of this verse (vs9b) “for my power is made perfect in weakness” First part we talked about sufficiency of Grace to us. Now we will be looking at His power is made perfect in us. We will be looking at two words power and the word perfect. Let us begin. The word Power in the Greek is dunamis It occurs 118 times in the NT meaning power in action. Also power in ability physical or moral residing in a person. It is used sometimes of a sign or wonders even in performing miracles. The word Perfect in the Greek is Teleioo this is from the word Teleios. Teleios to complete brought to its end when used as an adjective to reach full maturity. Now Teleioo means to make complete to finish and to fulfill to become in to completion. In context Jesus’ power and that is being made into perfection for our weakness. Lets turn to Isaiah 40:29-31 (ESV) 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (vs29) 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. In this verse we see that he gives his power to faint and also the very week the ones who have no might. They both receive the power of God in there lives we are dealing with two types of people here. The faint or the weary ones the word faint in the Hebrew is ya-aph meaning to become tire as if from a wearisome flight. We will then see why this word was used in Vs 31. God gives power to the faint to restore there strength so they can be in flight again like eagles wings. This person he has been given to him just the power. Power not to be faint no more they are ultimately strengthened. The word Power in the Hebrew is Kowach strengthen, power, force, or ability to do something this word appears 126 times in the poetry and prophetic literature. The one who has no might they are with out strength they have gone beyond being tired. Reminds me of a flat tire with no air in it. The structure of the tire is there but there is no air to make it strong. The tire has to have air for it have its strength back again so it live up to its potential again. We are the same as the tire except we are a living creature. God’s power increases in strength the ones whose might is spent. (vs30) 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; Circumstances in this life have the young people weary exhausted that’s how they fall in to enemies hands so many times. Young people are under attack this day and age to try to pull down the moral fabric in there lives. That is why as parents we need to instill in them wisdom knowledge and understanding. And not to forsake the discipline or instruction of their fathers or mothers. Our youth need to learn this at an early age to learn discretion. So the wont faint or become exhausted with the system of this word. Isaiah 40:29-31 (ESV) 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (vs31) 31 but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. The word wait in the Hebrew is qavah its meaning is to bind together to twist, to expect, to wait, to look for. This word stresses the strain of the mind in a certain direction with an expectant attitude: a forward look with assurance. As we often wait on things to change to manifest things in the natural for our lives we do loose strength. But if wait with fervency relentless pursuit after God what he has for our lives. We will mount up with wings like an eagle to rise above circumstances we wont be weary or faint. We should always depend on the strength of God even before weakness sets into our life. This comes from a Constance study of God’s word to build our faith. Having the power to overcome is another form of Grace. Then Grace becomes more than enough then power of God is demonstrated in our lives that in our weakness he becomes our strength and provides a protection over our lives. Jeremy Ruiz
