My Sunday thought. My six year old gets out of the tub, he is - TopicsExpress

My Sunday thought. My six year old gets out of the tub, he is walking around in his towel so I shoo him off to get dressed. He turns around and starts whining and says MOM, help me! I cant find my clothes. My response you havent even looked in your closet? MOM HELP ME, you NEVER help me (whine, whine). Oh blah, whatever (crossed arms and an eye roll from me!) I started wondering if God feels the same way? As a parent, I am willing to help my children AFTER they put forth a valiant effort, but not very willing to help when they complain or dont even try. I often hear people say I have read a few scriptures, attended church when I was little, I tried praying once but I didnt get an answer, God didnt deliver me or hear my prayer so I am not trying anymore. But, if there is one thing I have learned about my relationship with God it is the assurance that he DOES hear and answer prayers (but heres the kicker....I HAVE to put forth a little effort first). I HAVE to do the looking, I HAVE to study the scriptures and do the searching. Its not until I am brought to my knees and sincerely plead with him, I need your help God....not my will, but thine be done. Then at last the heavens are opened and he pours out his blessings. The scriptures are littered with the passage, Ask and it is given, seek and ye shall find. If we want to reconnect with God we have to FIRST do the asking and seeking (ie. put forth a valiant effort, actually read His word, and search out truth.) before we can expect any answers or help. Back to my own children; If I ask them to clean their closets, and they get to work right away, an hour passes and they come to me for help in order to lift the last heavy box to the top shelf, OF COURSE I am willing to help! They were obedient, they worked hard and they tried their best! Our lives are no different on a grand scheme. If we are obedient, we take time to read the scriptures, seek for truth, and do our best... then at last, God will do the heavy lifting. He always does. We just have to do our part too.
