My TOP 10 tips for growing LONG✔ STRONG✔ HEALTHY✔ hair: 1. Hydrate Yourself - drinking water (not just a glass a day, you should drink half of your weight in ounces per day) is great for overall health, wellness and your hair! Ever wonder why your hair/skin is so dry?? Drink more water!! Taking a daily mutivitamin is suggested too :) 2. Keep your hair and scalp clean - The scalp needs to be able to breath! It cannot do so with product buildup, grease, dandruff etc. sitting on top of it. I recommend clarifying your hair 1x a month, shampooing normally once a week (and every other day for my caucasian ladies) and always following with a DEEP CONDITION. CoWashing is great....IF and only if you are practicing using 100% natural products only. And even still dirt mixed with oil can and will buildup. The reason why a shampoo with a detergent is necessary is because of the non water soluable ingredients used in most hair products. 3. Be Gentle - Over time our scalps get used to the tugging and pulling we inflict during hair styling. And though you may not feel as though you are being rough - you probably are! Hair is more fragile than you think, so take it easy! 4. Tools - wider toothed combs, soft boar bristle brushes, OuchLESS hair bands and certainly NO rubberbands. Your hair will appreciate the change. 5. ALWAYS protect your hair at night. Most of us have plain ol cotton bedding. Hair + rubbing up against cotton (no matter how high the thread count) is FRICTION. Friction = dryness & breakage. You do the math. As easy fix to this is to buy higher end silk pillowcases. 6. Trim every 8 weeks ONLY. Statistics prove that most peoples hair only grows 1/2 inch PER MONTH. If you are trimming every 2 weeks, how will you ever see progress? Make sure that whomever does the trimming, trims. 1/8 of a inch is usually all it takes if hair is being well kept. 7. Products. - I cannot stress the importance of using quality products. If it costs $4 at the dollar store, how good is it....really? 8. Natural products are the way to go! Im not chemically bias but natural products are better for our hair, period. Do YOUR research. YouTube is awesome, but going off of someone elses reviews are totally wrong. What works for one person, doesnt always work for the next. Many, many products contain harmful chemicals that will actually aid in drying the hair out - breaking it off & causing you grief. Define those chemicals and make it a POINT to turn the bottle around and read every time you buy. But hey, it says natural ? A little secret : manufacturers LIE in order to sell products. 9. Moisturizers, Oils - but no grease, shea butter, mineral oil or wax. 10. Protective styling against the elements is important. If youre going on a sun & fun filled vacation, invest in products that provide SPF. If it is -10°, moisturize your tresses and tuck them away.
