My Theory: Evolution through Religious Selection: For thousands - TopicsExpress

My Theory: Evolution through Religious Selection: For thousands of years, people whose brains do not produce a strong enough sensation of "the religious experience", and thus found themselves not believing in the local god of the time, were removed from the gene pool by use of violence by the believers. This still happens in much of the world even today. Adaption for survival, in the presence of religious selection, means we must grow with brains that convince ourselves to hold the importance of the religious experience highly - as a life or death matter - because those who did not do this would die at the hands of those who did, or at least be shunned by them. We must not underestimate the strength to which this genetic profile, violently enforced upon us via history, shapes the human experience, and the things we so easily convince ourselves as being real. The true truth seeker must learn to transcend their genetic preprogramming to see things as they truly are, rather than in the way evolution has dictated we must do to survive.
