My UNGS lecturer once said that putting theory (the right thing to do) into practice is something difficult and never fully implemented. Not too long ago, while I was with my friend Obadah who pretty much drives like a Saudi, a police officer followed us with his motorcycle and made us pull over after my friend went all of a sudden from the right side to the left side of the lane so that we wouldnt miss the exit that takes us back to our university. After stopping us, the police officer acted as if he was about to issue us both traffic tickets. We bought it and started begging him not to do that like two little white girls. Ok. Tell me now. Ticket or settle? He said. We went for settling. How much did we end up paying? All it took was RM 22 (8 dollars). Surprisingly, the police officer had manners and said thank you before he left to make a living off of other people. As I thought about it afterwards, the ideal or theoretical answer wasnt to be a moron and accept the traffic ticket as some might think of it as the right thing to do. It was to pay as little as possible to ultimately avoid paying around RM 300. Also, the thank you the police officer said implied a potential future friendship. Why would I make an enemy for the sake of doing the right thing? I didnt figure out a good way to end this story. So yeah.. thats all.
