My Visit to China & your business Strategy........ As some of you would be aware I have just returned from a visit to China. The visit was brief and I visited two major cities Beijing and Shanghai. I was fortunate to attend a conference where we were briefed by leading Chinese business men, expat Australians and Australian Government department heads. I was also given the opportunity to visit the Volkswagen Car Plant. This car manufacturing plant covers an area of 6,150,000m2 and employs 27,900 people. An exciting part of the conference was listening to Mr. Li Cunxin, who is the Artistic Director of Queensland Ballet and more notably the author of Mao’s Last Dancer, an inspiring book about his personal life growing up in China. He spoke about “opportunities” in life and to learn when to grasp them. During the 5 day briefing there were definitely many take home points and I would like to share some of them. Maybe they will help with your business planning & strategies. Very quick 1. China has a population of approx. 1.2billion people. Shanghai has approximately 23mil residents. 2. Australia is expecting approximately 1mil Chinese tourists in the next few years 3. The Chinese see Australia as a friendly and safe environment 4. There is an opportunity if you are in the business of providing “a service” of some form. 5. If you can cater for Chinese clientele, there is an opportunity for you 6. Service is the key word 7. Service covers many aspects of a product or the delivery of this product. 8. Very wealthy business people enjoy coming to Australia and need to be catered for. 9. We may often use the term “millionaire” to describe wealth. The Chinese more regularly use the term “billionaire” 10. Part of the Chinese 5 year plan is to expand, both internally & externally. (Pollution control is at the top of the agenda) 11. Websites, mobile usage, technology is very much a big part of their transactional life style 12. There is opportunity knocking on our door step, we must make sure you don’t miss out. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in China. The people were friendly and catered for me as a foreigner. I can never complain about the service. I can’t wait for my return visit to China. I hope that gets you thinking about your business strategy & my hint about the service we can provide.
