My Year Of Being Thankful Day 207 Today I am thankful for SWIMMING 101! Well from a parents point of view :-) Water Time=available time to practice in at least a 25yd pool, without or with a coach GKAISA=governing body for Knoxville summer league ETSSL=governing body for Upper East Tn summer league TISCA=Governing body for all Tennessee High Schools Ok, you guys get the point, its alot to learn just like every other sport. I have been 3.5 years and I am still learning. But, there is one key element in the above list that makes swimming unique water time or the lack of availability of it! Most people cant walk out in the back yard and practice swimming, nor can they go to the park, nor the community center (we dont have one), nor to Panther Creek (they dont have a lap lane to practice on your own) and the lake isnt appropriate (no walls for flip turns, water too dark, boat traffic too hectic, life jacket required for safety)! In my life of SWIMMING 101, a true dedicated swimmer knows they have to stay in the water (aka water time) 4 or 5 days a week YEAR ROUND! This becomes more important once the basics are learned in order to be competitive even in the summer league! In SWIMMING 101, a parents view, a parent will do whatever it takes to support their childs desires to improve (just like any other sport), even if that means spending more time driving than you want to. I have learned in SWIMMING 101, Morristown has absolutely nothing available to support the year round competitive training required for a dedicated swimmer! I will hand it to the Morristown Boys and Girls Club, they have a good summer team (we swim there), but limited off season training and limited availabilty times for water time during the summer! Not enough for a dedicated swimmer needing year round training 4/5 days a week!!! All in all though, when I have needed a SWIMMING 101 update, (a new opportunity to get water time), it appears in my path. Will Ethan be Michael Phelps...probably not...will he be awesome in a couple more years...you betcha cause I will find water time no matter where I have to go to support his desire and dream! I owe him that much! Thank You God For SWIMMING 101!
