My academic library includes a cafe and allows food and drink pretty much anywhere. For the most part, our students are very good about picking up after themselves. However, during midterms and finals we tend to get students who arent regular library users...and theyre pigs. In the past, weve blanketed the place with signs (paper signs, reminders on the computer screens, digital signs in the atrium), which--of course--make zero difference. Has anyone tried another approach? Anything thats worked well for you (short of banning food and drink)?
