My afternoon: Today I had to drive to Tahlequah to the offices - TopicsExpress

My afternoon: Today I had to drive to Tahlequah to the offices of Contract Health at Hastings. I have private insurance but choose to use Hastings as I really like my Dr and he has been my Dr for a very long time. I had a procedure back in July for which I had gone through Contract Health, received a referral and as Hastings did not offer this test, they sent me to a hospital in Ft. Smith that was in my network. Last week I received a bill for a portion of the cost of the tests. I contacted the facility where the procedure was performed and was told I would simply need to take the statement to Hastings. They also said that the statement I had received might not have the necessary coding on it but that Hastings could request one with the coding if they required it. I would also need to give them (contract health) written authorization to do so. I called Hastings, spoke to them and told them I would bring the bill to them today which they said would be fine. SO, I went to the office at Hastings this afternoon and was told they did not actually handle billing, that office was located somewhere else. I was told I should leave the statement there, they would in turn send it to the billing department.. I replied that I would rather take it to them myself so I could be certain it did not get lost in the shuffle between locations and they refused to give me the address or tell me where the billing office was located. They said, We are not allowed to give out that information or send people over to them. I could not believe they were refusing to tell me, a Cherokee citizen that uses their health care system, where an office was located. I asked WHY? The lady said that if you call the office and they give you the address then you can go there but we are not allowed. She said from what she understood they have limited parking and do not have an elevator so it is not handicapped accessible as they are located on the 2nd floor. Does this seem right?
