My bank turned down my credit card application, saying that, according to Experian, I have too much debt compared to my income. I have no debt. Experian says I am entitled to a free copy of my credit report, but after I went online and filled out their questionnaire, they said that I had not sufficiently proven that I was me, and they refused to give me the report. I can request the report by mail, but only if I supply documents which do not exist (a lease or bank statement with my current address). I finally paid for the report and found that I owe $10,000 on a Chase credit card I have never owned, I work for a company Ive never heard of, and my previous employer was the medical practice I dissolved in 1993 - the last nine years I spent in federal government service notwithstanding.
