My beautiful wife Beverly Hendrix Bowen has always supported my career as an Correctional Officer. I know it has not been easy. The life of a Correctional Officer wife is very demanding. She has dealt with many unusual circumstances. Ive worked crazy hours. Back when I worked midnight shift, she would always stay up all night cleaning house and stuff so that I could sleep during the day without being disturbed. She basically took it upon herself to adapt my sleep schedule so that I could have somewhat of a normal life at home. She never complained when I had to call and say cancel our plans for the day because I got stuck on a double. We missed a lot of family reunions, church, and many other activities baca use of my odd hours. She has always had a hot meal ready when I did come home regardless of how late or what shift. She has never complained about me being gone on the road for training all across the state. She even traveled with me on most trips to pistol team matches I competed in. I know she has stressed along with me when things were going a little crazy at work. The only time she ever voiced her opposition was around my first year as an officer when I came home once to get a clean uniform. I had got a lot of blood on me when she saw it she aggressively asserted that I need to quit and find other work. I calmed her a reassured her that I was totally fine. Since then I have came home in all sort of conditions, torn uniforms, scuffed up, covered in blood (mine or inmates) , covered in pepper spray, even stitches. She learned to just ask how my day went and I would say fine, how was yours. During my time as key and lock sergeant, when I got those in the middle of the night calls to come in to work, she would get up, lay out my uniform and wait up till I got home before going back to bed with me. She is the greatest wife any man could ever wish for. She has always supported me. Now that I have become the training sergeant, I am glad I have some pretty normal hours to work. A little more stability for me and my family. I am so blessed. I do miss the compound like crazy. I will always be a compound officer at heart. I will be back in the pound one day when I next promote, but for now, I am enjoying this reward of years of paying my dues, thats not only for me, but for my family. Life is great.
