My biological fathers family was originally from the Carolinas so I am very affected by every aspect of the civil rights movement for Blacks that Dr King is cast as a main character in HIStory. There are places where TO THIS DAY there are laws never removed from the books that criminalize the relationship my mother and father shared for 8yrs in the late 60s into the early 70s. There is STILL work to be done. I know that I am complacent because I have only been called nigger to my face 4 or 5 times in 4 decades. This image is not my daily life... but the ghosts of the mindset that created this image are definitely something that I have lived with. I did not grow up with my father like the author of this post so I never had the kind of discussion that is described here. Thank you Sonya Renee for sharing this. The perspective is one that I am glad is being shared.
