My brother has a friend visiting from France and he told us that - TopicsExpress

My brother has a friend visiting from France and he told us that while looking up information on Lithuania on their MFA website he came across the following: Les étrangers font souvent l’objet d’agressions verbales ou physiques à caractère raciste, en particulier les minorités visibles. (Foreigners are often subject to verbal or physical racist attacks, particularly visible minorities.) I looked it up and, for example, none of our neighbour states have similar warnings... I want to say again - weve been in the EU for 10 years, ffs - but now directed at my fellow citizens. I also want to say that its not *that* bad and yet...yesterday while walking down Laisvės avenue and chatting happily in English about Art Deco architecture some guys barked at us in Lithuanian what are you doing, why are you talking in English, talk in Lithuanian!! with some choice words added. I guess that probably constitutes agression verbale. And yet. We walked in the busy parts of the city for almost 3 hours and that was the only accident. I dont think that Theo will leave with a bad impression. But Im still embarrassed that such a warning is still needed.
