My career photographing Formula 1 started as a young boy in 1976. It ended on a sunny Friday morning in Montreal, Canada in 1994. It it difficult if not impossible to explain, but I became very close to Ayrton Senna, and his death at Imola on May 1, 1994 rocked me to the core. I was contracted to cover Monaco, which I did and then Canada. I showed up on Friday and the sun was shining and the light was perfect and it was Montreal, one of my favorite circuits and I was standing on the outside of turn one waiting for the 90 minute practice session and realized that the passion had come to an end. I took a couple of photographs, and decided that it was over. I was such an emotional wreck that I dare not have spoken to anyone. I did not say goodbye to my many friends and colleagues, I just went home. This was one of the last ever Formula 1 photographs......nothing special, perhaps not even that good, but I was not at my best that day.
