My closest relative, my Uncle Larry...the man I shared a room with from ages one to 7, and who was my hero for my whole life.. is going to die tomorrow. He is alive by machines, cognizant, has a do no resuscitate order and is going to have them take him off the machines on Wednesday. His lungs have collapsed so he will die. He knows this. He has suffered his whole life with spina bifida, Had his leg amputated last year, and now cancer from smoking has settled in his lungs and just pierced his esophagus - they implanted a breathing tube in his trachea. All the things he said he didnt want have come to pass, and his final day is today. And he knows this. To say I am sad does not describe the horrible feelings I have. This man that I love so much has the horror of knowing today is his last day, and hes said hes scared. We can do nothing more for him, but make him comfortable and say a prayer. Please take a moment to say a prayer for my Uncle Larry. Please say the words that will ensure his smooth transition to something better. Something kinder. He hasnt passed but knowing this is the last day is horrible.
