My computer stopped dad last night . Rebooting got me cannot find SATA drive 2 Shoot, I thought - the damned drives crashed. I am not an expert, but I thought Id better open the bonnet. When I looked inside there was clearly a SATA cable dangling loose, and a disk drive it had come off. Oh well, nothing ventured. But as hard as I tried to re-insert it, no go. On careful,examination of the end of the cable, I find the thing blocked up with a big lump of plastic. On careful comparison of one drive with another, the disk drive is missing a matching piece of plastic. When the machine was built, the cable needed a 180 degree bend to fit, and was a bit short. So over a number of months the strain has been breaking off the key-way plastic on the hard drive. Luckily I can get another cable to fit on so I can access the drive. Unluckily it will only stay on while being leant on, so now I need a new drive. Or a glue gun. Anyway Im glad I peered under the hood.
