My cousin Susan Hammer manages the multi-award-winning AMA Plaza building (f/k/a IBM Plaza) in Chicago. It is next door to the famously-circular Marina Towers, on the north bank of the Chicago River. Also known by its address, 330 North Wabash, the building was designed by Mies van der Rohe and finished in 1973. It is his last great skyscraper and last building in the United States. It is now home to the Langham Hotel, as well as to the headquarters of the American Medical Association. The Langham Hotel was just named the 22nd best hotel in the world. Also, the building just received only the second IREM Certified Sustainable Office Building Award in the United States. It appeared in The Dark Night, and served as an anchor point for Nick Wallenda’s recent high-wire walk across the Chicago River.
