My cousin killed himself on August 26, 1976 at age 26. It devastated me, the entire family. Back then we didnt understand depression. Why couldnt he snap out of it? Cheer up! My grief covered all the stages, including anger. I called him a coward. I was told he went to hell because thats what the bible says. I dont believe any of that. Michael was a brave young man that served his country in the Army, volunteering at a time when others were dodging the draft. Afterward, he earned his college degree. At my uncles funeral several years ago, Sally Cronin Cunningham said the most loving thing anyone could ever say to my aunt: Uncle Marshall is with Michael in heaven. She looked into Sallys eyes with hope and asked, Do you really think so? Yes, Aunt Georgia, we really do.
