My dad 21st speech for me!! Today we are here - To celebrate Paul To tell his life story - don’t panic not all We’ll just take some highlights - And lowlights as well and a few things of interest - I feel I should tell. Well first he was born - In England in Surrey ROYAL ASCOT it was (ooh) - But he was in no hurry. A big baby boy - At around 4 kay gees Crying and hungry - With knobbley knees Cheerful and happy - With wonderful ways He woke at night crying - For many many days You see he was hungry - And that’s still the same Munchies at night - is his favorite game He clangs round the kitchen - And empties the fridge And drinks all the milk - And leaves off all the lids He cooks up a feast - In the middle of the night Then goes to bed happy - Leaving on all the lights The baby, the toddler - The cute little boy I’ll tell you some stories - For you to enjoy When dad knew the answers - And mum cured the pain And solved all his problems - Again and again At three he decided - A new thing to do Spread food on his face - With just his eyes peeping through He thought it was funny - And Sarah did to But after a while - They found something new. By spilling some washing-up liquid one day Sarah and Paul - found a new game to play The kitchen became - such a great water slide The living room carpet - the run-up outside We woke-up to laughter - they’d had lots of fun it was hard to be grumpy - the damage was done The cleaners it took them - a day and half To remove all the bubbles - ho ho did we laugh Paul then got his bike – a motorcycle one day Fifty CCs of power - motorcross was the way He blasted around - on this speedy machine And crashed it quite often - True, I’m not being mean The sand dunes of Saudi - his motocross track He’d rush round the circuit - and then rush round back I do not recall – of him winning a race But he had lots of fun - you could tell by his face Then, we decided - to holiday here And try some extreme sports - See Paul had no fear Age six he went sky-diving - From 3000 feet But he made me come too - That wasn’t so neat Later that week - he sky dived again Wanaka this time – but I must explain The Flyingfox on the beach - was the next thing that day He fell off it crying – Sarah helped him that way So we emigrated - and bought a small farm Mandatory sheep - a dog and a barn Space for a tree house - a tramp and a bike All the things that Paul Dance – would surely like Paul mowed all the lawns - and he brought in the wood A nice little boy - he was ever so good Then oneday his hormones - woke up in a flash And spotty and hairy - came the teenage backlash He knew all the answers - rejected advice Became incompliant - and not nearly as nice His hair it expanded - and he wouldn’t wake up His clothes became baggy - and he kept saying “sup” So going to school - was becoming a chore He upset the teachers - they showed him the door And then he met Joe the builder - and a he built a few things And decided that building - was just right for him Then one day a project - I’m sure dad will like Stick 2 Skylines together - easy, just like a bike Several years later - and months of hard graft The Skyline was working - great paint and quite fast Paul drove round the streets – showing off his new car With his cap put on backwards – he was not going far A Policeman magnet – round hibiscus roads It was soon back in pieces – not compliant to some codes Then Unitec seemed - a great new idea Do a few papers - eat pies and drink beer Getting certificates - with a cape and applause He needed to do something – with wood and with saws Decided on building – his chosen career Chris Hope took him on – and the results are now clear He now has a skill-set – and tools and a van Paul’s almost a builder – thanks Chris, you’re the man So one day I’m dreaming – Our son builds a house For the parents who gave him – the looks and the nouse Who financed his projects - put up with his crap So he could turn out - to be such a nice chap I now look back over – Paul’s 21 years Of heartache and pleasure – of fun and of tears This cute little gangly - chicken-legged boy Is grown to a man - we have such pride and such joy
